Pick-up May 15th from 2 PM to 6 PM.

These nucs are a great way to get a hive started with locally adapted queen genetics. Produced on Salt Spring Island by a local beekeeper using hives that remain in the area year-round and overwinter. This is a great option for Vancouver Island & gulf islands beekeepers.

These nucs will include a local queen reared on Salt Spring Island. She will be marked, and will come already loose on the nucs frames within the nuc box (she will not be caged).  This is an overwintered local queen raised late season in 2021 to be fresh and ready early for the 2022 season. It often takes until mid-May to produce local queens, and with the cold and wet weather this year it will take even longer than usual - these overwintered local queens are a great way to save beekeepers from a longer wait for local genetics, and not miss out on the May nectar flow.

How Pick-Up Works:

After reserving we will receive your order and contact information. As we get closer to the arrival date and get updates from our supplier, we will pass along those details to you and finalize pick-up dates / times.

The pick-up location is not at our Urban Bee store, it is located at Country Bee Honey Farm who is hosting our pick-up in their parking lot. We really appreciate their hosting our pick-up in such a bee-positive setting. Please be respectful of regular traffic to their store, and make sure to stop in to see all the goodies they have in store (aside from their honey they have baked goods, coffee, treats and various knick-knacks).

Nucs do not need to be installed immediately. Nucs can be placed in the spot where they will eventually be hived into full equipment, and the nuc box opened and the bees allowed to fly. They will then orient to that location and will experience less stress and risk than if they are left sealed up. That said, it is always good to try to install a newly received nuc into a full hive within 2 days after receiving.

These nucs are for pick-up only from Country Bee Honey Farm: 6440 West Saanich Road

Returning the Nuc Box:

Although this may not be a realistic option for many Island beekeepers, please note you have the option to return the nuc box that accompanies the 4-frame nuc for a $20 refund per nuc box. This return must be to Urban Bee Supplies at 5300 34b Avenue in Delta, on the mainland, either returned in person or by mail, and must be returned undamaged. DO NOT RETURN THESE NUC BOXES TO COUNTRY BEE HONEY FARM. Please be sure to bring/include a copy of the purchase receipt for the nucs to accompany the returned nuc boxes, to make it easy for staff to issues the refund.
