Please join us for this hands on super informative and fun workshop. Whether you already keep these gentle and fascinating solitary native bees or are thinking of taking up this family friendly pursuit, this workshop is for you.

We will cover:

  • Mason bee natural history
  • How best to manage them in the garden
  • What to plant for them
  • Common pests and diseases and how to control them
  • Annual maintenance of the cocoons and nests.

If you have a nest that needs cleaning please bring it plus your own tools if you have them. Also bring your questions and curiosity! The instructor, the world-renowned and exceedingly famous bee master, Brian Campbell will lead the session and introduce participants to the awesome mason bee.

Brian has been keeping bees of all kinds for more than twenty years. He is the Beeologist in Residence at UBC Botanical Garden, teaches a sustainable urban beekeeping certificate course at Langara and leads the apiculture program at the Kwantlen Polytechnic University Farm School. He is also the product manager at West Coast Seeds where he has developed many wildflower mixes to support and encourage bees.

The event will take place at Urban Bee Supplies in Ladner, in our upstairs classroom. Urban Bee Supplies specializes in honeybee supplies, but it is just a short distance into cozy Ladner village to visit our partner-in-bees West Coast Seeds for some mason bees & equipment.
